Glendale - An investment company managed by Trammell Crow Co. in Phoenix (Jim Mahoney, pres.) plans to develop a 150-acre
mixed-use project north of the Phoenix Coyotes arena at the northwest corner of 91st and Glendale avenues in Glendale. The planned project, being called Zanjero, is targeted for 350,000 sq. ft. of retail space, 2.5 million sq. ft. of office and industrial buildings and 650 multi-family units. The flexible land use for the property allows 82 acres of employment, including professional offices, research facilities and light manufacturing, 45 acres of retail for community, neighborhood and speciality shops and 23 acres for high-density residential housing. The developer of the project is selling the property in parcels to end users and developers. Mindy Korth and Barry Gabel of Trammell Crow have been hired to market the project. Sources say the Trammell Crow agents have deals pending to sell some of the parcels. The prime Zanjero acreage is just east of the Loop 101 and directly north of the 223-acre Westgate project, which is planned for 6.5 million sq. ft. of entertainment, retail, hotel, office, and residential buildings. The 17,500-seat Glendale Arena opened at Westgate in December. The Arizona Cardinals are under construction on a multi-purpose stadium that is being built one-half-mile south of Zanjero.
